iPad hacked to run Windows XP

Looks like Windows 95 running on an iPad just isn't enough, with this new hack featuring Windows XP instead, thanks to Dave Soble, CEO of Evolve Technologies. This was made possible running VMWare Connectwise, taking all of 5 minutes of his time. Interesting - will iPad owners be curious enough to run Windows XP on their brand new devices, or do they prefer not to "defile" it with anything Microsoft?

Camera Connection Kit Boosts iPad Functionality

The iPad Camera Connection Kit if finally shipping, and iPad owners can be pleasantly surprised that Apple did not announce all of the kit's capabilities at the keynote speech. Besides reading SD memory cards to import photos, the Camera Connection Kit was expected to provide a USB port for digital cameras. The USB adapter plugs into the Apple 30-pin dock connector on the bottom of the iPad, or into the keyboard dock. What's interesting is what devices Apple has chosen to allow the iPad's USB port to recognize and use.

There's been a lot of attention given to the use of a wireless Bluetooth keyboard with the iPad, but now with the USB adapter it's possible to connect a USB keyboard. For those who already have a USB keyboard this is good news. It will also save a few bucks at the Apple Store compared to the wireless version, and won't require batteries.

The second surprise is that USB audio headsets indeed can be connected using the Camera Connection Kit. The iPad will automatically switch audio to the USB headset for listening to music and having a two-way VoIP phone call.

External USB hard drives did not make the list. Unfortunately they are not supported by the iPad and cannot connect via the USB port. It's possible that Apple will add more functionality with iPhone OS 4 when it comes to the iPad this fall. The USB port has the potential to give iPad a broad range of compatibility with different devices.

As of yet, Apple has not provided a complete list of digital cameras that are supported by the USB adapter. Although the Camera Connection Kit is limited, it expands the iPad's possibilities. The Camera Connection Kit is available now for $29. http://gadget-help.blogspot.com/

Review: VDownloader - Probably the best internet browser !

VDownloader takes the internet browsing experience to a new level. You can surf the internet like you would normally do but not only does it allow you to download videos but also let's you convert them to the most comfortable format possible. You wouldn't need any other softwares anymore. It is extremely user friendly and the setup is just 6.62 MB - easy to download and consumes less memory.

The screenshot below reflects how simple and user friendly the application is.

As I mentioned earlier, Vdownloader allows convert the video to any format possible. Take a look at the screenshot. From windows Media Player to iPad, Vdownloader handles everything.

The best feature of Vdownloader - Scheduler !
You can edit the settings so that it downloads videos only during weekends or during some predefined hours allowing you to control down downloading habits.

It allows you to search for videos and put align them for Batch Conversion.

Pros

  • Small in size.
  • Simple to use.
  • Consumes less CPU and literally no RAM.
  • Can download videos in batch.
  • Downloads can be scheduled on weekly basis.
  • Converts videos to almost every possible format.
  • Basic features are free to use.

Cons

  • No help manual available. Though the application is simple to use yet a help manual is a must with every software that goes live on the Internet.
  • History feature can be a bit confusing to use.
  • Test download not explain properly. The application requests to edit the TestList.txt file to perform download tests but does not give the exact path of TestList.txt file. It is actually present in the folder where the software is installed (Usually C:\Program Files\VDownloader)
  • Beware before you edit the proxy settings (see image below) from this software. The large buttons for various browsers when clicked change the proxy settings of those particular browsers (if the checkbox for Enable local proxy server is checked) instantly. This can hamper your browsers connection to the Internet. It did the same in my case and I had to dig into the settings of Internet Explorer and Chrome to disable proxy which VDownloader had enable due to one single click. So, think before you click!

Click to download VDownloader !

Sunday, March 7, 2010
Here is the list of the top 10 must have apps for your latest Motorola Droid and HTC Eris:

1. Locale: Tlets you customize your phone’s settings based on your location. You could program the app to set your phone to vibrate every time you’re at your office, or set it to go silent when you enter the perimeter of your local movie theater. Locale’s incredible location technology leverages GPS, Wi-Fi, and cellular positioning to determine the location of your phone. Although not all phones are equally equipped and not all location technologies have equal coverage, Locale gracefully scales back. Walking into a building with poor GPS reception? Not a problem.

Locale is available on the Android Market simply go to Android Market from your Droid and search for Locale.

2. Twidroid: This Android based Twitter app is available in a free and a pro version. Both of Twidroid’s offerings provide most every Twitter function you might need, from the basic viewing and sending tweets, following and unfollowing users, viewing profiles to the more advanced: saved searches, URL shortening, photo posting, and geo-location support.

Blackberry Tip : Add homescreen icons for your favourite BBM users.

Tuesday, February 9, 2010
A pretty handy tip if you have some very frequent contacts you want to separate out from all the others and keep them out in front. You also get to a see a little notification star on the contact's icon as soon as he/she replies back to an IM.

Open your BBM and scroll to highlight the contact you want from the contact list. Press the Menu key, and select "Show in Home Screen". This puts the contact's BBM icon in your applications list from where you can then move it to your Home Screen for easy access ! http://gadget-help.blogspot.com/

Top 5 Free Blackberry Applications

1. Blackberry Messenger: This is one unique application that comes with the phone and it allows you to send text messages between Blackberry users by simply sharing your bb PIN. It allows you to send voice clips (can be used as a voice sms), send images and files to other BB users. Blackberry Tip: Signal strength in numbers

Signal strength in numbers: Instead of looking at the bars, you can now change the display of your blackberry's 'signal strength' to read in real numbers. At the home screen, hold down the ALT key and type NMLL. The signal strength would now reflect in numbers instead of the bars. If you are in the 100 area ( -100 dBm), you will be transmitting at maximum power (2 Watts), and since coverage is hit and miss at this weak a signal, you may end up transmitting many times before the packets make it through. This might help explain any poorer than normal battery life. I consider anything at -90 to -50 excellent.

Blackberry Tip: Clear Log

Clear Log: Every action on you Blackberry is logged which in time will slow down your Blackberry. Atleast once a week, hold ALT key while you type LGLG. This brings up the event log where you can clear events. Then click the BB menu button and select "clear log". This tip frees up some memory for you helping your phone run faster. You can also copy the contents to mail to someone. http://gadget-help.blogspot.com/
